SIMI President calls for tyre safety initiative
The President of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), James Brooks is calling for the introduction of legislation that would outlaw the sale of second hand cars with tyres below the legal tread depth of 1.6mm.
Mr Brooks made the call at SIMI’s 62nd Annual Dinner at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Dublin recently with over 700 motor industry guests in attendance.
“Quite simply, it should be illegal to sell tyres below a minimum tread depth. This rule should apply to the tyres on any used car, no matter who is selling it, whether within the industry, privately or at the side of a road,” he said.
