Sean McManus Tyres was named the winner of the Tyre Champion award at the recent Pakman Awards, which took place at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin.
The Pakman Awards are the national environmental and sustainability awards, that recognise excellence in recycling and waste management among businesses, organisations, community groups and initiatives in Ireland.
Sean McManus Tyres in Drogheda, Co. Louth was awarded Tyre Champion, sponsored by Circol ELT, for undertaking a number of environmental measures in order to improve its sustainable practices.
This includes installing skylights in its tyre depot which is said to have lead to an 80 per cent reduction in lighting requirements and 75 per cent decrease in energy due to the use of LED bulbs
The company also upgraded its in-store compressor which it says has led to increased energy performance as well as fitting eco-friendly heaters where possible.
As a Member of Circol ELT, Michelin last year collected 1,500 worn truck tyres from Sean Mc Manus Tyres, which were used casings for re-treading to extend the lifespan of the tyres.
