With Tyre Safety Month in the UK fast approaching, premium tyre manufacturer Pirelli is supplying its employees with an informative leaflet with their company payslips in order to keep staff up to speed with the annual initiative.
Launched in 2007, Tyre Safety Month is a yearly campaign that is run by TyreSafe: one of the UK’s leading tyre safety organisations. Tyresafe was founded in 2006 with the sole responsibility of raising awareness of the dangers related to defective and worn tyres.
Pirelli recognises the significance of Tyre Safety Month and has responded by issuing a staff leaflet in order to highlight the importance of regularly checking tyre condition, pressures and tread depths.
The leaflet also explains the methods behind the 20p test: a simple and quick way to test tyres by inserting a 20p coin into the main grooves of the tyre. If the outer edge of the coin (where the words ‘twenty pence’ are written) is covered by the tread, this indicates sufficient tread depth for the tyre to be safe and legal.
“Tyre Safety Month is the perfect forum to ensure that our employees are fully aware of the annual initiative and are able to spread the word amongst family and friends,” explained Pirelli UK Managing Director Dominic Sandivasci.
“Tyres are the only point of contact between the car and the road and so correct tread depth and correct tyre pressure are vital to a motorist’s safety. Under-inflated tyres affect handling and grip, potentially causing irregular or unpredictable vehicle behaviour. Pirelli always strives to make its customers fully aware of the importance of checking tyres and we hope that our comprehensive leaflet will encourage our employees to raise extra awareness about tyre safety this October,” concluded Sandivasci.
