Pirelli prepares for packed grid at GT Cup season-closer

More than 30 awe-inspiring GT cars will take to the grid at Donington Park on Saturday 28 September as the GT Cup Championship celebrates the end of another successful season with Pirelli as the championship’s sole tyre supplier.

Various cars including Ginetta, Ferrari, Mosler, Chevron, Lotus and Porsche will battle it out over two sprint races at Donington Park. With a 59-point lead, Ferrari 458 driver Alex Martin looks set to win the overall GT Cup title but Jeff Wyatt is still in with a mathematical chance of snatching the accolade. Wyatt also sealed the GTA title at Snetterton but will be hunting down more silverware at Donington this weekend.

The GTO category is set to be competitive with 10 entries. Kevin Riley has already sealed the championship but Iain and Chris Dockerill have proved very quick in the second half of the season and will be sure to give Riley a run for his money. Jacque Duyver has excelled this year in the Ferrari 458 and will step up to GTO with crack team AF Corse this weekend. He will be joined by 2013 debutant Tim Hood in the TVR Sagaris.

The Barwell Motorsport run BMW Z4 of Ron Johnson and Marco Attard will return to avenge the disappointment they experienced at Silverstone in August. Sean Winder is back in the JMH run Ferrari 430 as is 2012 champion, Derek Johnston. Johnston, who won the opening race of the GT Cup season at Donington in a Ferrari, will compete this weekend in his new Ginetta G55 GT3.

Ian Loggie and Chris Jones will be hoping for a winning performance to lift the GTB group title but Dan Stringfellow is close behind and Mike Sellar is still in with a chance of winning the title.

Pirelli will be once again on hand to supply slick tyres in DM and DH compounds, plus the WS and WH wet weather tyres if required.
