Nexen Tire implements virtual reality into design process

Nexen Tire claims to have become the first Korean tyre manufacturer to implement virtual reality (VR) in the product development process.

To strengthen its digital design process capabilities, Nexen Tire has created a VR design simulation system at the Nexen Central Research Institute in Magok, Seoul.

It says this VR design review system allows users to “appreciate the scale of real tyres in a virtual space”. It adds that this will “improve product completeness and evaluate sensitivity by reviewing tread performance design styling and sidewall pattern design”.

Furthermore, when compared to a mock-up, Nexen Tire expects the system to reduce design development time and cost.
