The Michelin Alpin 6, available in 58 sizes from 15-17 inches, is packed with technology that keeps the tyre working effectively down to the 1.6mm minimum legal tread depth – whatever the weather.
Teardrop sipes widen as the tyre wears, and the resulting grooves improve water flow and grip. A ‘snow chamber’ at the base of the grooves holds snow, enhancing grip and braking even further. And Michelin’s multi-layer ‘Traction Booster Compound’ improves performance on snow, regardless of tread depth.
Acceleration and grip in snow is helped by sunflower oil-based plasticisers that keep the rubber supple at low temperatures and new types of silica-rich functional elastomers for more grip in the wet and snow and increased fuel efficiency.
Michelin claims the Alpin 6 has a longer lifespan than some other top-of-the-range competitors. Because of its long-lasting performance, the Alpin 6 does not feature the conventional tread wear indicator at 4mm. Instead, there are clear readings to show remaining tread at 75, 50 and 25 per cent.
