Max Verstappen creates history in Kumho-shod Dallara

The 16 year-old Dutch motor racing sensation Max Verstappen was victorious in the 2014 Zandvoort Masters race on July 6 supported by Kumho Tyre.

The former winners of this event not only include current Formula One stars Lewis Hamilton, Nico Hülkenberg, Valtteri Bottas and Jules Bianchi, but Max’s father Jos Verstappen, who was victorious in 1993 and subsequently drove in F1 for the Benetton and Tyrrell teams, among others. History has therefore been created, as Jos and Max are the first father and son to both win what is one of Europe’s top single-seater races.

Temporarily forsaking the Van Amersfoort car in which he currently lies second in the F3 Euro series, Max contested the Masters in a Motopark Dallara Volkswagen. Having annexed pole position, he fended off a strong challenge into the first corner from fellow front-row man Sam MacLeod to establish a lead of 1.7 seconds by the end of the first lap. By this time MacLeod had been forced into retirement by Szymkowiak, who was later penalised for the indiscretion, leaving Verstappen to continually pull away and finish the race a full 6.3 seconds clear of the chasing pack – a remarkably dominant victory!
