A Hunter HawkEye Elite TD alignment system has contributed to John Mulholland Motors (JMM) in Randasltown, Co. Antrim, winning Skoda Northern Ireland’d coveted ‘Retailer of the Year’ award, and adding thousands of pounds of additional labour sales in the process.

The family run business, which was established more than 25 years ago and employs some 60 staff at its two sites, took the decision to invest in a new Hunter aligner last year as part of its plans to expand and develop its in house tyre business.

As a main dealer, JMM’s choice of the Hunter aligner was a natural one as the system already had full Skoda approval and it could also be upgraded to allow calibration of the latest lane departure and active cruise control systems.

However, these impressive features did not prevent a degree of uncertainty about the investment as after sales manager Michael Robinson explains: “We’d heard lots of positive feedback about the Hunter alignment system but we did doubt if it was really as good as it sounded. In all honesty though, it didn’t take long for our scepticism to be proved wrong. After the initial training our technicians were all able to complete a “quick check” in a minute or two. Everyone found it easy to use and our service advisors are able to give customers a report with either a green or red indicator so they can easily understand if the alignment of their car needs attention or not.”

Since introducing the system six months ago, JMM typically measure the alignment of 10 vehicles per day and sell 20 alignment jobs per month which adds around £15,000 of additional labour sales per year.
