Hughes wins inaugural BRDC Formula 4 championship
The first BRDC Formula 4 championship, using Yokohama as control tyres, has been won by Jake Hughes. The 19 year-old clinched the title in the first of last weekend’s final three races.
It was a lights-to-flag win for Hughes in the first race at Donington Park, having claimed pole position and translating this into a commanding win, his sixth of the season.
Third place for Seb Morris meant that Hughes’ lead in the title race was now unassailable, with an advantage of 61 points and 60 points available for the two remaining races and he was classified provisional champion.
However, this was confirmed the following day, after the last two races. Both of these were won by Charlie Robertson, who secured the runners-up spot in the 2013 series as a result. His double win and fourth place in the first race on Saturday actually made his weekend tally 78 points, the highest score over the weekend of the entire season and a fitting end to the first season of F4.
Hughes took sixth and fourth place respectively, confirming his title as 2013 BRDC F4 Champion.
As winner of the title, Hughes takes a prize of £25,000, a test in a Carlin Motorsport F3 car and a BRM watch, worth £4,500 while Robertson and third-placed Seb Morris also receive BRM watches.
