Galway Tyre outlets lead the way in licensing

Four tyre retailers in Galway are the first in the country to be granted licenses. The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) has set up a comprehensive self regulation scheme to bring improved standards, service and safety into the tyre trade.

Ballinasloe Tyres, Byrnes Tyres, Donnellan Auto Service and Treacy Tyres have been awarded licenses for their tyre retail outlets. All four have had to comply with strict licensing criteria, which includes the independent accreditation of staff skills.  Licensees must also declare that they do not sell second hand, part worn tyres.

Motorists now have a clear visible sign to help them choose a tyre retailer who places safety at the forefront of their service. Using a licensed outlet will mean motorists have the peace of mind to know they are choosing a tyre expert who has experienced, skilled staff and is committed to working to industry best practice, according to the ITIA.

The Issue of licenses by the ITIA is a ground breaking development for the tyre industry. It is the first time that standards have been introduced to the industry and is in direct response to a mandate from ITIA members to improve safety in the industry.

With 14 licences already granted and a number currently being processed, Kevin Farrell President, commented: “Our members have been quick to support the licensing scheme. As reputable traders, they see the value in being able to let motorists know how serious they are about providing an expert service with safety as their focus.”

The ITIA is working with new licensees to generate press for their outlet in their local area, with President Kevin Farrell undertaking to travel to outlets for press opportunities. Farrell added: “It is important that, as an industry, we make the most of the new licences, to alert the motoring public of the progress that professional retailers are making. This will help everyone who gets a license in the future.”

Other new licensees are: Allstar Motors, Discount Tyres, Duleek Tyres, Ferguson’s Naas Tyres, Nenagh Quickfit, Meyler’s Tyres, Tractamotors, Tyre and Service Super Store (3 outlets).
