First choice for Michelin tyres in Ireland

Michelin and major wholesale partner Tractamotors are celebrating the eighth anniversary of an agreement between the two organisations which has significantly improved the availability and sales of Michelin car and van tyres across Ireland.

Signed in 2013, the agreement has seen around 260 additional tyre dealerships regularly ordering Michelin tyres – either supplied through Tractamotors’ twin warehouses in Dublin and Cavan, or sister company TyreCall’s facility in Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Charly Bailey, Michelin’s Wholesale Programme Development Manager – UK & Ireland, believes the secret to the success is Tractamotors’ commitment and investment in holding extensive stock across its three locations.

“They carry every single dimension of Michelin car and van tyre we offer, bar none,” she says. “This effectively guarantees tyre dealers access to the same confidence in supply as if they were buying direct from Michelin, but without the potential increased time it can take to ship supplies from our UK distribution centre.”

Niall Murray, joint owner of Tractamotors, explains: “We have worked closely with the Michelin team from day one to ensure we can offer our partner dealers rapid access to the full line-up of Michelin product, delivered directly to their forecourts on a same or next-day basis.

“It’s taken a significant commitment from our side in stockholding, but that’s really paid off in the number of additional dealers which now have Michelin tyres on their shelves – and it’s growing all the time.”

Commenting on the impact of the joined-up approach, he adds: “Having stock held locally means we are best placed to react to customer orders quickly. If a dealer needs a particular size or tread pattern which they don’t have in stock, they can be confident we’ll have it to them the next day.”

Tractamotors’ next-day delivery service is available on Michelin orders placed by 3pm from its Cavan and Dublin sites; plus, the company aims to deliver on a same-day basis within the Greater Dublin area for orders placed early in the morning.

Local deliveries take place using its own fleet – several of which now carry Michelin branding – supported by a trusted third-party logistics carrier covering the remainder of the country.

In Northern Ireland, TyreCall offers same day delivery for orders placed by 10am, or next day delivery thereafter, using its own fleet.

Bailey adds: “The partnership is strengthening all the time. Eighteen months ago, we entrusted our Kormoran car and van tyre range to Tractamotors, and in very little time it’s been gaining great traction – with stock now supplied directly to the rm’s three warehouses from the Michelin Group manufacturing plant in mainland Europe.”
