The death has occurred of Michael English, founder of Phoenix Tyres of Jones Road, opposite the Hogan Stand at Croke Park, Dublin.
Late of Orwell Gardens and Clontarf in Dublin, Michael passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospice Raheny, after a bearing a long illness with great courage.
Michael was very well known and respected in the tyre industry. Using experience he had built-up previously, he founded Phoenix Tyre Company Limited in 1971, and his business expanded over the years to become a large retailer of tyres and alloy wheels in Dublin.
A keen golfer, he was also a past President and Captain of St. Anne’s GolfClub.
Our sincere condolences to loving wife Elena and daughters Lorna, Maria, Georgina and Michael’s sons, Roger and Conor, who manage Phoenix Tyres.
Michael will also be sadly missed by his loving grandchildren, brothers, sisters, in-laws, family, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Michael’s removal took place on Thursday evening (June 21) from St. Francis Hospice, Raheny, to St. Gabriel’s Church, Dollymount.
His funeral took place this morning, Friday, after 10am Mass, in St. Gabriel’s to Kilsaran Cemetery, Castlebellingham, Co. Louth.
The family requested donations, if desired, to St. Francis Hospice or the Irish Motor Neurone Association.
