Continental obtains ISCC PLUS Certifications for all European tyre plants
Continental Tires has announced that all of its European production sites where new tyres are manufactured have been awarded the internationally recognised International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS.
In addition to the tyre plants in Lousado (Portugal), Puchov (Slovakia), Korbach (Germany), and Sarreguemines (France), the tyre plants in Otrokovice (Czech Republic) and Timișoara (Romania) are now also among Continental’s ISCC PLUS-certified production sites.
Moreover, Continental’s textile plant Industria Textil do Ave (ITA) in Lousado, which supplies technical textiles and other reinforcing materials for new tyre production in Europe, has also been certified.
The ISCC PLUS certification confirms Continental’s compliance with specific documentation requirements regarding the use of renewable and recycled raw materials. It also confirms the completely transparent traceability of the raw materials used in the production process.
By using certified raw materials, Continental says it can ensure traceability from renewable and recycled sources. The certification has also been granted to Continental’s tyre plant in Hefei (China), expanding the company’s network of ISCC PLUS-certified sites beyond Europe.
“The ISCC PLUS certification of all our European ture plants is an important milestone and a strong signal for a more sustainable industry in Europe,” says Jorge Almeida, head of Sustainability for Continental Tires.
“But we’re not stopping there. Our plants in other regions will follow step by step, like our Hefei plant, which is already certified. We have a strong ambition to make our tyre production more sustainable worldwide across our entire supply chain.”
