Continental adds new van tyre to range
Continental has added a tyre for vans with high fuel-saving potential to its range.
The VancoEco is specially designed for vans such as the Mercedes Sprinter, the Ford Transit and the Volkswagen T5 and offers around 30 per cent lower rolling resistance.
This works out to a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions of up to 4 per cent.
At the same time, the engineers have succeeded in keeping wet and dry braking distances short and giving the tyre similar driving performance characteristics to those of car tyres.
Mercedes – Benz has approved the tyre for factory fitment on its new Viano and Vito range BlueEfficiency models, Renault’s Master and traffic, the Volkswagen T5 are also equipped with the tyre from Continental.
A combination of two design measures aimed at helping to reduce significantly the rolling resistance are behind this great savings potential. Firstly, the van tyre has a silica tread of the type already used in car tyres.
Secondly, the tread of the van tyre has been redesigned to greatly reduce the deformation each tyre undergoes when the tread elements pass through the ground contact area. In conjunction with the very flat tyre contour, these two measures allow for a reduction in rolling resistance of up to 30 per cent.
