British-based teams dominate Pirelli-supported GP3
The UK-based Status Grand Prix and Arden International outfits scored a win apiece when the Pirelli-supported GP3 Series resumed at the Hungaroring near Budapest last weekend.
Richie Stanaway won Saturday’s opening race for Status before Patrik Niederhauser triumphed for Arden in Sunday’s encounter. Meanwhile, Essex driver Alex Lynn leads the standings by 31 points after he bagged a brace of fourths for the British Carlin team.
Just one tyre compound is nominated for GP3, which was the soft tyre in Hungary. In Saturday’s race, Richie Stanaway led home a Status GP one-two, having also sealed pole position. He fought an intense battle with Arden’s Robert Visoiu, which pushed his tyres to the limit. When Visoiu slid wide with two laps to go, Briton Nick Yelloly claimed the runner-up spot.
Two British drivers made the podium on Sunday with pole-sitter Dino Zamparelli and Jann Mardenborough finishing second and third respectively behind Niederhauser. Next up for the Pirelli-shod GP3 runners is Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on August 22-24.
