Following their successful five-year collaboration, Dutch tyre manufacturer, Apollo Vredestein and premier Mercedes tuner, Carlsson have produced a bespoke high-performance tyre for the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The ‘Carlsson’ Vredestein Ultrac Vorti would be a premium ultra high performance tyre at the top end of the market. Its distinctive tread pattern has been developed in close cooperation with the renowned Italian designer Giugiaro, whose touch gives the asymmetric tread pattern its unique and sporty appearance.
“We have developed a tyre that perfectly translates the terrific dynamic ability of the new C-Class to the road”, said Carlsson’s Managing Director Dipl.-ing. (FH) Markus Schuster.
Engineers and test drivers from both companies worked closely to perfect this tyre, which has been developed exclusively in 19-inch sizes for the C-Class. The additional Carlsson logo on the tyre sidewall serves as a unique identifier. Features such as a raised ridge to provide some wheel protection from light kerb damage, outstanding steering precision, and a speed rating of over 300 km/h, were as important as minimal rolling noise and a compliant ride. While great emphasis was placed on handling and braking performance in all weather conditions, as the front tyres have primary responsibility for clearing water in wet conditions, rear tyre development was biased toward improving adhesion and stability.
Proof of concept, high-speed testing took place at the ATP test facility in Papenburg, with many kilometers covered on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, and on public roads.
The ‘Carlsson’ Vredestein Ultrac Vorti comes exclusively in 225/40ZR19 and 255/35ZR19 sizes, and this UHP tyre would only be available at Carlsson.
