Pirelli’s aspalt RX and RE rally tyres assisted the top two winning crews on last weekend’s Donegal International Rally, round four of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.

Based in Letterkenny, the Donegal International Rally is unique in that it is the only three-day rally in the country. Competition was tough from the outset but it was Sam Moffett who took a resounding victory at the wheel of his Pirelli-equipped Subaru Impreza WRC after 20 competitive stages. The win was even more impressive considering it was only Moffett’s second competitive outing in a World Rally Car.

Donagh Kelly took the runners-up spot at the wheel of a Ford Focus RS WRC which was equipped with Pirelli’s asphalt tyres. He finished the event 90 seconds behind rally winner Moffett. Pirelli was on track for a podium clean sweep until Derek McGarrity, also supplied with Pirelli tyres, retired from second place on the final stage with a mechanical failure.
